New for Spring 2018! Columbia in Venice: East Meets West uses Venice’s position as a crossroad of culture to challenge predetermined paradigms with respect to Europe and the world beyond its borders. The two Columbia faculty-taught courses will explore the core human concerns of nobility and civility across ancient, medieval, and early modern civilizations, and the world beyond Europe as envisioned in the Italian romance epics, respectively. The program provides you a great opportunity to start or continue Italian while spending your spring semester in Venice, a city that has showcased a unique model of globalization through the ages. One of the program courses, Nobility & Civility, fulfills a Global Core requirement. Questions? Contact program advisor Meg Booth (mr2850@columbia.edu)
