Provides support for full-time laboratory research on the Morningside Heights campus over the summer in the biological sciences, biomedical engineering, chemistry or chemical engineering

The Herbert Deresiewicz Summer Research Fellowship provides support for a Columbia College or Columbia Engineering student who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to engage in full-time laboratory research on the Morningside Heights campus over the summer in the biological sciences, biomedical engineering, chemistry, or chemical engineering. Students are expected to carry out this research under the supervision of a faculty member from Columbia who will be required to sponsor the project and provide advice before, during, and after the period of research.

The recipient will receive a stipend of $5,000. Awards cannot be used for the completion of formal coursework or structured internships.

If you are awarded a Deresiewicz Fellowship, you may be asked to speak at information sessions for interested prospective applicants.

This fellowship was established in 2011 in memory of Herbert Deresiewicz, a long time SEAS faculty member and department chairman who held a deep and abiding love for undergraduate teaching.
