Overview

ItalyIndiana University's Bologna Consortial Studies Program (BCSP) at the University of Bologna is a supported direct enrollment program offered during the spring semester or academic year to students with at least 4 semesters of Italian. Students take at least two courses at the University along side Italian students as well as a variety of Italian cultural studies courses designed for the BCSP program. Students live in independent housing with Italian students.

Academic Program

During the pre-session in September or January, students take a four week pre-session language course. The course is designed to improve students' command of Italian and facilitate their adjustment to life in Bologna and at the university. Students earn 3 semester hours of credit for the pre-session.

During each semester of the academic year, which begins in October and extends through June, Columbia students enroll two regular University of Bologna courses with Italian students each semester. Students may also take special courses in Italian literature, language, art history, film studies, civilization, and contemporary politics that are arranged by the BCSP for program students as well. All instruction in program courses is in Italian, and the courses are taught by University of Bologna faculty.

Program Features

During the first week or two after arrival, program students live together in a hotel. With the assistance of the program, students then locate apartments in Bologna and are required to live with Italian students.
