Overview

The CIEE Spain: Advanced Liberal Arts program in Seville allows you to take various courses that bring your Spanish language skills to the next level. This program is designed for students interested in taking classes alongside local students in Spanish while immersing themselves in the rich culture of Seville. To participate, you need to complete at least 5 semesters of Spanish, or the equivalent, prior to departure.

Academics

You will have the opportunity to take most of your classes with Spanish students at CIEE's partner institutions: the Universidad de Sevilla, Universidad Pablo de Olavide, and EUSA. You can also take courses at CIEE Seville Study Center, where a variety of specialized electives are offered. So, whether you are interested in business, engineering, language, arts, the humanities, or social sciences, you can explore your interests in Seville.

Before departure, you will take an online placement exam with CIEE to determine appropriate placement in language and upper-level courses. When you arrive, you will also participate in a two-week intensive Spanish language or culture course to help immerse yourself in Seville's academic and social culture.

Please note that while CIEE requires 6 semesters of Spanish, Columbia University students are eligible to apply with 5 or more semesters of Spanish. However, it is encouraged to have as much experience with the Spanish language prior to departure as possible.

Program Features

You have the option to live in a homestay or a residence hall. The majority of students live in a homestay during the experience since, in many cases, it will enable you to connect with others in the community.

To encourage language and cultural acquisition, all participants of the program agree to speak Spanish throughout their study abroad experience.

Also, all courses are complemented with CIEE co-curricular activities and excursions beyond the city to enhance classroom learning and provide intercultural understanding.
