Hello! I'm a senior in Columbia College majoring in English and concentrating in Math. I spent the Fall semester of my junior year focusing on English by participating in the Columbia University in London program. In the home country of the texts themselves, I studied the novels and essays of D.H. Lawrence, the King James Bible, and Postcolonial literature that traces back to the British Empire and London, the imperial capital, particularly. Beyond these courses, I also found myself in a class on London Theatre led by Columbia's Professor Jean Howard. Professor Howard's class included theatre outings and weekly field trips to museums, plus a day trip to Shakespeare's hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon. Outside of class, I traveled to all corners of London and many other places within the U.K. - Bath, Stonehenge, Edinburgh, Ambleside and Grasmere (in the Lake District, home to William Wordsworth) - as well as to Belgium and Switzerland. Studying abroad proved to be a great experience for me, both for the many great memories and the lessons in independence and adaptability. If you have any questions about London or studying abroad in general, please feel free to contact me at bws2118@columbia.edu!
