Academic Program
Students are given an on-site Chinese language examination at the beginning of each term. Students who do not do well on the examination may be required to enroll in Chinese courses for foreign students and to reduce the number of non-language courses they can take that term.
During the first term of study in Beijing, whether fall or spring, students enroll in 4-5 courses for a total of 15 points.

One Chinese language course chosen from the Tsinghua University Chinese Learning Center for Foreigners or through the Department of Chinese.
Three or four Tsinghua University courses chosen from a variety of courses offered by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, which includes the departments of philosophy, Chinese language and literature, foreign languages, history, sociology, and political science. Students with interests in other subjects may choose up to 8 points outside of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
For the second term in Beijing, students may not be required to take a Chinese language course and should plan to enroll in university courses for a total of 15 points.

Tsinghua University Schools and Deparments
School of Humanities and Social Sciences includes the departments of philosophy, Chinese language and literature, foreign languages, history, sociology, and political science, and institutes in economics and international relations.
Students may only enroll in up to 8 points in courses in the following Schools and Departments.
- School of Sciences includes the departments of mathematical sciences, physics, chemistry, and biological sciences and biotechnology.
- School of Architecture includes the departments of architecture, urban planning and design, building science, and landscape architecture.
- School of Information Science and Technology includes the departments of electronic engineering, computer science and technology, automation, microelectronics, microelectronics and nanoelectronics, and software.
- School of Civil Engineering includes the departments of civil engineering, hydraulic engineering, and construction management.
- School of Mechanical Engineering includes the departments of mechanical engineering, precision instruments and mechanology, thermal engineering, automotive engineering, and industrial engineering.
- School of Aerospace includes the departments of engineering mechanics and aerospace.
