Application Procedure

Cornell Abroad
300 Caldwell
607-255-6224

http://www.cuabroad.cornell.edu/

Cornell applicants must complete both the Cornell Abroad application (available on the Cornell Abroad web site at www.cuabroad.cornell.edu/prepare/apply.asp) and the Berlin Consortium application (above). The Cornell Abroad application must be printed after completion and submitted along with all other materials to Cornell Abroad, 300 Caldwell. (DO NOT send any materials directly to the Berlin Consortium for German Studies at Columbia University.) There is no application fee.

All applicants must take a German language test, which will be administered by Gunhild Lischke, Language Program Director in German at Cornell (). Before you take the test you may wish to speak to Professor Lischke, who can give a preliminary assessment of your language level. You should plan to take the test when your German language skills are at their highest level but before the application deadline.

Cornell students admitted to the program will pay the Cornell Abroad tuition, which includes tuition, housing during the intensive German language session at the start of the term, and dormitory housing during the rest of the program. Students who choose to live outside the dorms, and who share quarters with Germans, will receive a subsidy of $1,000 per semester toward the cost of their housing.

Cornell financial aid (including federal, state, and institutional aid) is available for all approved study abroad programs and is calculated on the same basis as if the student remained at Cornell. Aid awards are adjusted to account for the possible difference between the cost of study in Berlin and in Ithaca. For more information on finances and aid, and to view sample budgets, see the Cost, Billing, and Financial Aid section of the Cornell Abroad Web site.

If you have questions about the application procedures, the approval process, and the terms of your participation in the Berlin Consortium program, please contact Cornell Abroad (contact information above).
