Faculty and Staff

The Program Director, Dr. Lening Liu, holds a Ph.D. in linguistics and has been a faculty member in Columbia University's Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures since 1995. He has taught in the Summer Language Program in Beijing since 1997.

The head instructors for the language courses are:

Yongping Zhu, Assistant Professor of Chinese at University of Mississippi

Zhirong Wang, Senior Lecturer of Chinese at Columbia University

Shaoyan Qi, Lecturer of Chinese at Columbia University

Ling Yan, Lecturer of Chinese at Columbia University

Lingjun Hu, Lecturer of Chinese at Columbia University

Xiaodan Wang, Lecturer of Chinese at Columbia University

Local university faculty are hired to teach different sections of the Chinese language courses and trained language tutors are assigned to support students on an individual basis.

Mr. Xiaoyu Yang is the local Program Assistant for the program.

A second Program Assistant, usually a former program participant, is hired each year in the spring. This is an excellent opportunity for program participants to return to Beijing for a summer.
