Central University for Nationalities (CUN)
Established in the
1950’s, the Central University for Nationalities (CUN) is one of China’s most important comprehensive
universities and the only university in China
where all of China’s
56 ethnic groups are represented in its faculty and student body.
CUN has 21 colleges and departments, 71 bachelor’s degree programs, 62 master’s degree programs, and 23 doctor’s degree programs. It offers highly ranked programs in ethnology, Chinese ethnic minority language and literature, and Chinese ethnic minority art. CUN has a teaching faculty of 1,003 members, including 192 professors and 337 associate professors. 70% of its 15,000 full-time students are ethnic minorities.
CUN is located in the university district closer to downtown Beijing, near the National Library of China to its south, and the electronics district to the north. It has a beautiful gardenlike campus with a mix of traditional and modern buildings. The campus also houses an ethnic minorities museum.
