If you are eager to delve deeper into your Arabic language learning, consider attending the CIEE Jordan: Middle East Studies program. While there are no formalized language requirements to apply, it is strongly encouraged that you take 2-4 semesters of Arabic prior to departure. You can select to live with either a host family or in an apartment throughout your time abroad.
To further advance your language skills, you take both Modern Standard and Colloquial Jordanian Arabic. In addition, you take several courses that are in English either at the CIEE Study Center. You will also have the opportunity to take one course at the local university, Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT). The CIEE Study Center offers a range of courses in fields such as: anthropology, history, economics, literature, religion, archaeology, environment, political science, and the media. PSUT provides courses in English focused on economics. Note that not all courses offered at PSUT transfer to Columbia for credit.
You select to live in either a homestay or shared apartment with other CIEE students. Homestays are strongly encouraged to aid in Arabic language acquisition and intercultural communication and understanding. The academic program is supplemented with excursions to Jordan’s archaeological, historical, and natural wonders
