CIEE Summer Language and Culture in Barcelona, Spain allows you to study Spanish in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. You can choose between living with a carefully selected homestay family, residence hall or an apartment.
The program offers a wide variety of Spanish language and content courses taught at the CIEE Study Center. In order to attend the program, you must have completed at least four semesters of Spanish prior to departure. Your classmates are fellow study abroad students. CC and GS students, please note that most content courses taught in English are not eligible for Columbia transfer credit. All students should review transfer credit requirements.
You have the option to live in a homestay family, residence hall or an apartment in the surrounding area. Former students have recommended homestay families, as it in many cases increases your cultural and linguistic immersion. Cultural activities are also planned by CIEE throughout the summer, should you wish to participate.

To apply, you must complete the two steps below. Deadlines vary and some applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Therefore, you should complete the steps below simultaneously:
- To apply for Columbia clearance (approval) to study abroad, click on "Start Your Application" on this webpage. Clearance applications are approved by the OGP on a rolling basis until the application deadline listed on this webpage.
- To apply for program admission, complete an external application directly on the program webpage. Note that this deadline may be in advance of the Columbia clearance deadline.
