Overview

If you are eager to take local courses alongside Chilean students, consider applying to the IFSA Butler in Chile: Valparaiso & Vina del Mar Program. As a supported university enrollment program offered during the fall, spring, and academic year, you are required to take five semesters of Spanish prior to departure. You are able to take courses from two local universities. The program includes a Spanish conversation partner exchange program, day-trip and longer term cultural activities as well as a homestay experience.

Academic Program

This program is designed for students with a good command of the Spanish language and interest in Chilean and Spanish-speaking South American politics, economics, history, literature, and society. The Chilean Universities Program (CUP) in Valparaíso enrolls you in classes alongside your Chilean counterparts at two local universities. All university classes are taught in Spanish and are integrated with full degree-seeking students. In addition, you take an advanced Spanish course to further your knowledge of the language.

Program Features

You live with a homestay family throughout the experience. You are encouraged to get involved with the local community through volunteer projects and through their exchange partner.

To apply, you must complete the two steps below. Deadlines vary and some applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Therefore, you should complete the steps below simultaneously:

  • To apply for program admission, complete an external application directly on the program webpage. Note that this deadline may be in advance of the Columbia clearance deadline.
