The IFSA Butler in Valparaiso & Viña del Mar is a supported university enrollment program offered during the fall, spring, and academic year to students with at least 5 semesters of Spanish. Students are able to take courses from up to three local universities. The program includes a Spanish conversation partner exchange program, day-trip and longer term cultural activities, homestay, as well as workshops.
This program is designed for students with a good command of the Spanish language and interest in Chilean and Spanish-speaking South American politics, economics, history, literature, and society. The Chilean Universities Program (CUP) in Valparaíso enrolls students in classes alongside their Chilean counterparts at two universities: Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and Universidad de Valparaíso. All university classes are taught in Spanish and are integrated with full degree-seeking students. In addition, you must take Oral and Written Spanish.
Students live in homestays in Vina del Mar. Students are encouraged to get involved with the local community through volunteer projects and through their exchange partner.
Students in Valpairaso will take three day trips to tour the city, visit Curacavi, Pomaire, and the Isla Negra as well as a Historical Tour of Santiago. A longer, four day trip will be taken to La Serena.
