Overview

SIT Indonesia: Arts, Religion and Social Change is a field-studies program emphasizing Balinese identity and the arts. During the semester, you have the unique opportunity to study Bahasa Indonesia. The program is highly mobile and housing varies at each location. Towards the end of the program, you also conduct independent field research.

Academics

Specific emphasis in this program is placed on traditional and shifting Balinese art forms as well as an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the various religions practiced in Indonesia. Coursework typically includes topics such as: Bahasa Indonesia, field methods and ethics course, an independent study project as well as a course on arts, religion and social change.

Program Features

SIT believes in giving you the opportunity to learn through experience. With that in mind, you participate in several educational excursions throughout the semester. Locations in the past have included: local ceremonies in the Ubud, Tabanan and the Denpasar areas of Bali among others.

Because of the high mobility of the program, you live in a variety of different housing situations. Primarily, you live in homestays during the semester abroad.
