The Wellesley-in-Aix program offers an excellent opportunity for students who would like to study in France, but not in Paris. Students enroll directly at the University of Aix-Marseille I. The University of Provence (Aix-Marseille I) is one of the most distinguished in France, second only to the University of Paris in the areas of French literature, history, and linguistics. Because of the rich cultural background of Aix and its region, the university is also the home of the Center for Mediterranean Studies. Students live in either an apartment or a homestay.
Students must take at least two regular university courses at the University of Provence with French students. The University offers a wide range of courses to accommodate any major. Students can choose to take the remainder of their courses either at the university or through core courses offered by the program and taught by local French professors. All coursework will be done in French.
Students may live in an apartment, or with a host family selected by the program. All students receive a monthly allowance: students in families receive an allowance for weekly lunches, while students living in apartments receive an allowance that covers the cost of food and other provisions for the upkeep of their living quarters. All apartments come fully equipped, including linens, tableware and basic cooking equipment.
