The Yale Swahili program provides opportunities for you to learn Swahili at the intermediate or advanced level. All students live together in houses or apartments. The program is FLAS eligible, if funding is of interest.
Students take one course in reading, writing, listening and speaking Swahili.
All students live in shared apartments or houses as assigned by the program. The program also takes you on various excursions such as Zanzibar, Bagamoyo- town of slave trade (later free town of slave trade), Saadan National Park, Pangani- Old Swahili Town, Amboni caves, Amani Natural Reserve, Lushoto (for hiking), and Korogwe plantation among others.

- To apply for Columbia clearance (approval) to study abroad, click on "Start Your Application" on this webpage. Clearance applications are approved by the OGP on a rolling basis until the application deadline listed on this webpage.
- To apply for program admission, complete an external application directly on the program webpage. Note that this deadline may be in advance of the Columbia clearance deadline.
