Tanzania is a mixture of over 120 different ethnic groups. The majority of the people speak Bantu languages, with Kiswahili as the official language. Major religions include Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, and traditional African religions. Brown in Tanzania provides US students with a unique view of a society in transition and is particularly appropriate for students interested in African and development studies.
Based at the University of Dar es Salam, this program enrolls students directly in regular courses -taught in English- along side of Tanzanian undergraduates. Students take courses in the Faculty of Arts & Sciences. The program begins with an intensive Kiswahili course, which continues over the course of the semester as students select 4 electives at the University. Housing is in double dorm rooms in single sex dorms.
