Based in the Western Cape in the wine-growing district, Stellenbosch University was historically an Afrikaans-language university in a small college-town. While students are encouraged to take Afrikaans or Xhosa, there are English-language courses in all disciplines. This program is appropriate for students from all academic disciplines who have an interest in learning about contemporary South African life and society and the forces that have created it.
Student take a core course 'Politics and Cultural Change in Contemporary South Africa' and 4 regular classes alongside their South African counterparts in the University. You may undertake an independent study with faculty permission. All Columbia students must take a course in the Africaans langauge.
Students live in university residence halls or dormitories. There are many opportunities to get involved with local communities by volunteering.
