City: Cairo & Dakhleh
Language: English
Term: Spring Only
Semesters of language study required: none

Notes:

Columbia University's field program in Egypt consists of three courses plus an independent project module to be attached to either of two courses. The three courses provide different approaches to studying an ancient society and using the results of archaeology. Students also take a course in colloquial Arabic.

The program constitutes a full semester, and 16 points of academic credit are awarded for its successful completion. The semester runs approximately from January 1 to March 31 each year. The first two months are spent in the Dakhleh Oasis at Columbia's facility there; the third month is spent partly traveling, partly based in Cairo. A background in archaeology and more broadly in the study of the ancient Mediterranean world is required.
