Notes:

CC students may spend one year studying at Oxford as part of the College's Oxbridge Scholars Program. Oxford and Cambridge Universities are each composed of more than twenty residential colleges of varying size, usually well over 200 students.Every college has its own faculty and administration. You will be enrolled in a single college in which your course of study will be supervised, in which you will also generally live and eat, and in which a large share of your social activities will also probably be centered.

Columbia students, like all the British undergraduates, will study only one subject for the entire period.Teaching occurs in the form of tutorials within your own college. You are assigned to one or perhaps two tutors, whom you will formally see once or twice a week, although they are available for consultation if needed.

Tutors plan your course of readings, set paper topics, and evaluate and discuss your papers. They will range in rank from advanced graduate students to senior faculty in the college, the same range of staff offering tutorials to students from the United Kingdom.University lectures are also offered in all fields and are open to students from all colleges. They are, however, much more in the nature of public lectures: optional rather than required and without any work attached to them. This situation differs somewhat from department to department, notably in the sciences.

The academic year runs from early October until late June.It is divided into three terms with four-to-six-week vacations in midwinter and spring. You may only enroll for all three terms, the full academic year.

Admission procedures:

Completed applications will be read by the Columbia Committee. While the Committee is looking for talented students capable of making a contribution in a number of ways to their individual English colleges, primary emphasis will be placed on the candidates' academic performance during their first three Columbia semesters.Typically, a successful candidate will have at least a 3.7 GPA.

Admission to the Oxford/Cambridge Scholars Program requires acceptance by Columbia College and a separate acceptance by either Oxford or Cambridge University. It is important to emphasize that Columbia admission into the program does not guarantee admission to Oxford or Cambridge. Both universities wish to maintain the right of refusal.

Completed applications are due in early December of a student’s sophomore year.
