Tuition: You will pay Columbia’s home school tuition through SSOL/Vergil. The tuition invoice will be sent via e-bill in mid-August 2024 and it will due in mid-September 2024. It covers tuition, course excursions, most course materials, some local transportation, and cultural activities. Tuition does not cover housing, meals, airfare, medical insurance, some course materials, personal travel, and personal expenses.

Program Fee: You will also pay your program fee through SSOL/Vergil. You will be billed for this fee with your tuition in mid-August 2024 and it will be due in mid-September 2024.

Deposit: The non-refundable deposit of $500 is submitted along with your Confirmation of Participation form to reserve your place in the program and is payable in the UGE Application Portal. The deposit will be applied to the program costs.

Tuition and fees are subject to approval by Board of Trustees of Columbia University and may change.


Estimated Out-of-Pocket Expenses are not billed by Columbia. The estimated amounts in this section provide a basis for students to determine their individual budgets for expenses related to their time overseas for the duration of the program. The below estimate is an average of what students say they actually spend. These expenses are NOT paid to the program.

Meals: The cost for meals and food will vary widely depending on individual spending habits. Costs can be kept down by preparing your own meals, taking advantage of student cafeterias, and only eating out occasionally.

If you choose the homestay housing option the estimated cost will be $2,000. For students in the dorm, the estimated cost will be $3,000.

Local Transportation: You will be responsible for paying for transportation to and from the airport in Paris at the start and end of the program. A monthly Navigo pass is currently 78€/month.

Visa: You are responsible for visa fees. The fee above includes the following: Campus France fee, VFS fees, French consulate fee and visa shipping costs.

Books and course supplies: You are responsible for purchasing any course materials.

Cellphone: All students are required to have a working cell phone capable of making and receiving both local and international calls throughout the duration of the program. Most students will buy a SIM card and can top off as needed or pay for a monthly plan.

Airfare: Estimated cost of a round trip airfares from the US to Paris. Flight costs will vary depending on point of departure. You can consider getting traveler's insurance, or flexible tickets. You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements from your preferred departure city to the program.

Personal Expenses: Personal expenses are highly variable based on each person's spending habits. They may include entertainment and personal travel.

As part of the program, you will be covered for urgent and emergent care while you are abroad. Routine and preventive care is not included so you should maintain a health insurance policy that will provide coverage outside the U.S. or your home country. This cost is not included in the chart above.
