Meals (if in-person): The cost for meals will vary widely depending on individual spending habits. Costs can be kept down by preparing their own meals and only eating out occasionally.

Local Transportation (if in-person): Students will be responsible for paying for transportation to and from the airport in Kyoto at the start and end of the program. Students must also pay for local transportation around the city.

Visa (if in-person): U.S. citizens (and some other citizens) are exempted from having to apply for a visa in order to enter Japan for less than 90 days. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please check with your local Japanese consulate about whether or not you need to apply for a visa. If you require any additional documentation from the program, please contact the Center for Undergraduate Global Engagement.

Books and course supplies: Textbooks and other course materials will be distributed after the language placement exam in Kyoto.

Cell Phone: All students are required to have a working cell phone capable of making and receiving both local and international calls throughout the duration of the program. This estimate is based on costs of U.S. cell phone plans.

Airfare (if in-person): Estimated cost of a round-trip airfare from NYC to Kyoto. Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements from their preferred departure city to the program.

Personal Expenses: Personal expenses are highly variable based on each person's spending habits. They may include entertainment and personal travel.

It is required that you maintain a health insurance policy that will also provide coverage outside the U.S. for routine, urgent and emergent care. This cost is not included in the chart above.
